venice at golden hour (venice, italy)
As the sun finally started to rise, Venice changed completely.
The empty streets slowly filled with warm light, turning the canals, buildings, and narrow alleys into something almost unreal.
No rush, no crowds yet. Just Venice in the first light of the day. |07/26
before the city wakes (venice, italy)
Before golden hour, Venice starts moving again.
The streets were still completely empty, with no tourists anywhere. Just the first workers setting up, cafés slowly opening their doors, and the city quietly getting ready for another day.
For a short while, Venice felt like it belonged only to the people who actually live and work there. |07/26
basecamp piazza, san marco (venice, italy)
After walking through half of Venice, I finally made it to Piazza San Marco.
The square was already completely empty, so I found a couple of chairs and made it my basecamp for the rest of the night. I stayed there for hours, taking photos, sitting around, and watching the quiet plaza.
Around three in the morning, I eventually made my way towards the harbor and found a bench to spend the rest of the night on until the sun started to rise. |07/26
venice, at 3 am (venice, italy)
This one started as a trip to see my girlfriend in Valencia. My connection on Saturday already routed me through Venice, but a layover wasn't enough. I couldn't pass through without seeing it. So I booked another flight on Friday night and spent the whole night in the city, no accommodation, just me and a camera. It was deeply uncomfortable. Thick, humid, still warm long after dark, the air so salty I could taste it on my lips. By around three in the morning I was completely done. But that is the trade. No crowds, no queues, no one in the frame. Just empty streets, still canals, and the city finally holding its breath. |07/26
